You also need to remove the corresponding line from the backups file (the one that starts with "102"). That said, BackupPC should respect the new expiry numbers. What version are you running? There was a bug that prevented expiry from working when the disk was too full, but that has been fixed. Now, even if new backups cannot start, expiry should still be done once per day.
