I just did a bit over a gig (all the disk space I had) running the 
command from a 3.x Centos on a 1Ghz PIII, copying from a dual-800 PIII 
running Centos 4.x.  No errors, but both have all the updates.  The 
other way works too, since the dual-800 runs backuppc and the 3.x 
machine is one of its targets.
