Hello all:
I have just revamped my backups using BackupPC and this seems to be
working fine. I now have a few questions I hope you guys can help me
with. Here are some details about the setup:
Hardware:
/usr/share/BackupPC installation web and binaries
/var/BackupPC where the pool is (?)
/export/backups where the data is stored
Here are my questions:
* Regarding the scheduling of backups, is this basically the same
as cron syntax?
* The data volume /export/backups is 1.5TB and a week of fulls and
incrementals is around 1.1TB. What is the best practices regarding
full/incrementals? 1 full weekly, 5 incrementals?
* I have another volume /export/offsite that is 1.5TB. I would
like to "backup" the backups onto this volume for offsite storage. The
backups should be the latest from /export/backups, would need to stay
compressed but since this is just for disaster recovery I only need the
latest full filesystem for each backed up host. Can I use BackupPC to
backup a backup? If not what is the best way to approach this?
* If the backup server crashes, do I need to have /var/BackupPC
backed up as well to recover? What is stored here?
