I have solved this problem by soft linking the pool directory to where I
want this:

Assuming the pool is in /var/lib/BackupPC/pool and you want to really
have this in /export/backups/pool then

cd /var/lib/BackupPC
/bin/rm -Rf pool
mkdir /export/backups/pool
ln -s /export/backups/pool .

I did this for pc, cpool, pool and it works for me :)

The path is hardcoded into multiple files at install time. Run the  
installer again.
