Rob,

Hopefully I have a chance to help you out like you did for me.

I don't know how much of an issue security is for you, but for the shares that
I back up I set "Full Control" under the Security tab in the properties menu
for the user that is allowed to do the backups. Also, under the "Sharing" tab
I set the Permissions to "Full Control" for the backup user.

Hopefully this solves the problem - and you can always go back and modify the
permissions to tighten security later.

accidentally deleted about 10 GB of
data from a network drive, and restored it in about 10 minutes.
However, the restore process has hung and BackupPC says "backup in
progress".

I'm using rsyncd on Windows. I performed a direct restore. The last
line of the rsyncd.log file shows "rsync: rename
"path/to/file/.Thumbs.db.qfnb1B" -> "path/to/file/Thumbs.db": permission
denied (13)

Anything that I don't have permission to restore, I probably didn't have
permission to delete in the first place. I suspect all the deleted
files have been restored, but I'd like to convince BackupPC to continue
through the rest of the restoration just in case. How can I do that?
And how can I overcome the "permission denied" error in the future?

Thanks.
