What about the backup state option in vmware? Does this help alleviate your concerns.

I've gotten away with restoring 'live' vmware images from backup (tape backup, way back when); but I wouldn't recommend it. if you want easy restores of a vmware image; build some sort of mechanism that shuts down the vmware guest instance, then does a backup of the image, then starts the vmware guest again. our web developer at work does this for his Windows session, keeping the old copies around (bzip2'ed) in case he needs to revert. you do sacrifice a lot of speed for this ease and simplicity of recovery tho. -- Carl Soderstrom Systems Administrator Real-Time Enterprises www.real-time.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc.
