Why not just add a  seperate backup for your mp3 directory (and exclude 
it from the main) with compression level 1 via gzip?  You can mix 
compression levels and if the file is found somewhere else, it will be 
found as a match.

I wonder which would be better?  explicitly excluding /media/mp3 and 
including it in another, or excluding *.jpg *.mp3 *.avi and including 
that in another?  Would make restores more complicated...
