Now that I have your attention =-)... I just wanted to report I got it working.
I got tired of tarring up my /var/hack customizations and ftp'ing them. I realized rsync would be more efficient and then thought -- heck, if I find rsync for TIVO, I might was well add it to my BackupPC environment. The version of rsync out there (http://tivoutils.sourceforge.net/) doesn't support checksum-seed, but otherwise it works fine. Someday maybe I'll learn how to cross compile the latest one. (And of course it doesn't back up the proprietary media partitions -- just the OS, / and /var). Not particularly useful to most of you, but a testament to the flexibility of BackupPC...
