the problem here is that BackupPC is disk-I/O-limited in a lot of cases.
Putting two machines on a common set of spindles means that you're limited
by the response time of those spindles. If you are lucky enough to have an
EMC array, that may not be as much of a problem; but for most everyone else
(i.e. the people who are likely to use BackupPC), it's far better to have
separate pools on separate spindles.
