On a somewhat unrelated matter; I'll mention that I like 3ware RAID controllers far more than the Dell ones. Neither are bug-free; but the 3ware ones have far better user interfaces on their management tool. The Dell management tools are a nightmare to get working on linux because there's so many different RAID cards they've used over the years (and so many downloads of different versions on their site) and it's really tough to know which one you have unless you crack the case (not an option in a lights-out operation like I do). The documentation on the Dell stuff is pretty poor; the 3ware tools are pretty self-explanatory. I would go so far as to take out a PERC card and buy a 3ware card to replace it, because it will save so much time and hassle in management down the road. If you have 1000 servers all identical; then your situation is different from mine and you can probably work with the Dell tools. Every one of my boxen is unique; but the 3ware cards are consistent in their UI, and consistently good. -- Carl Soderstrom Systems Administrator Real-Time Enterprises www.real-time.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges.
