I'm not sure why. The backups re-appeared. The only ones that disappeared
were the ones that were written over.

There are three main possibilities:

  - the backups are really there, but you don't have permission
    to see them in the CGI interface

  - the backups are really there, but the backups file (per host
    file that summarizes the backups) is corrupted or empty

  - the backups actually got deleted because of the configuration
    settings.

You should be able to tell which applies to you by directly looking in the
one of the TOPDIR/pc/HOST directories.
