Subject: trash folder

Can someone explain to me what the trash folder function is under the main
backuppc directory ?

My assumption is that this is where expired backups go and then get cleaned
out. What I am seeing is my trash folder grow and as such my /backups file
system gets full, and then I need to delete manually, which can take quite a
while. I also noticed that one of the directories under trash cannot be
deleted. Not sure if this is causing the issue with the trash directory to
be cleaned up. I tried to delete the directory under trash with the
command: rm -Rf <dirname>, but this returns the following error message:

rm: cannot remove directory

Looks kind of strange to me.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated. Up until recently it was working
great. Not aware of any changes to my system.
