Thanks Les no I do not see any logs and I can send email from the
command line I if I run the. I checked the maillog and see the messages

No, it should be a matter of having a working sendmail on the machine. 
Can the 'mail' program send from the command line?  Do you see entries 
in /var/log/maillog with reasons for failure?
