It seems to become modern to ask for help without giving information about the problem :-( Your server hangs but you see the usage of your cpu? I am pretty sure you have checked your /var/log/messages for any possible error messages!? And you have a "standard linux" and the only available backuppc version!? And you have checked the backuppc log files after the reboot. And all of them are empty? At least you should include three things into your questions: 1. name and version of your OS 2. versions of the used software (backuppc and rsync) 3. your name.
