At least that's an easy question: none of them. While there are differences between AV's, there are only a handful of free ones, none of which make the distinction between what is reading a file when a file is read. (Nor would it be particularly wise to do so.) That said, we use a combination of AV products here, which includes AVG Free, and haven't noticed any performance problems caused by the AVs themselves.
