Funny you should mention that...
I really like Michael's installer package. It's very handy. Except for
two things:
= It only supports a single drive (As in just C: and I always have a C:
and D: for servers). That's a fairly tricky hurdle to overcome, and I do
have servers where I only *need* to back up one drive, so I use it there.
= But the bigger deal is that the installer won't work on Windows Server
2012 [R2]. The installer can't identify the version of VSS it needs and
will fail rather than use the 2008 one. I looked at updating the
installer, but my installer-scripting-fu is weak and I wasn't able to
accomplish it.
I've been told that it's possible to take what Michael's installer does
and actually do it by hand but I haven't had time to dig into that. If
anyone has a walk-through it would be *much* appreciated: I'd love to be
able to take advantage of VSS on the 2012 servers I have where I only need
to back up a single drive.
Anyway, just thought I'd take the opportunity to thank Michael for his
very useful tool and maybe beg a little for an update... :)
