Is this BackupPC v3 or v4?
With v3, the number of symlinks make it impractical to copy data from one
machine to another (you can do it if you dd the partition to a partition on
the new machine, but don't try a file-level copy unless you use some
specialized scripts and really know what you're doing).

It's generally easiest to just set up a new server and keep the old one
around as a backup until the data can be considered 'expired'. Much simpler
and more reliable than trying to migrate data.

For BackupPC v4 I have no experience.
