The symlink thing is a nice feature - if it is properly done: I use symlink (client_list and client_profile) as a means to have all essential data (backup data and client definitions) on a separate drive, with the benefit that for debugging / testing just modifying a single link allows to work on backuppc without the danger to destroy operational backup data.
