I think --datadir is already used.  Examples I found with a grep:

src/win32/patches/mingw-utils.patch: datadir = @datadir@
po/Makefile.in.in:    $(mkinstalldirs) $(DESTDIR)$(datadir)
configure:   if test `eval echo ${datadir}` = NONE/share ; then

I'll create a new option.
