OT, but under Windows, VSS makes that easier than you could imagine.

Assuming VSS is enabled for that drive, simply right click on the folder
and select Properties. Go to the 'Previous Versions' tab, select the
newest version of the folder before the file was deleted, and copy the
file somewhere useful.

By default, I think Windows takes VSS snapshots twice a day and keeps
them for a week or two.

If you aren't using Windows, it's not too hard to make Samba do the same
thing. Since you mentioned a Microsoft Word file I'm assuming you are
using a share on a Windows or Samba server. If you aren't then this
won't work, but it is a really useful thing and in a large organisation
helps users look after themselves and lets you get on with other things!
