I can't answer your question, only confirm that we are having the same 
dilemma.  Our restore build trees occur within a manageable time because 
we're not restoring that often and when we do it's worth waiting a few 
minutes, but when jobs are launched (a frequent event), the director can 
become nonresponsive for several minutes per job launched.  The launched 
jobs wind up running ok, but our window into the status of the jobs and 
what's been successfully launched (i.e. assigned a jobid) goes dark for 
extended periods of time.  So far we are living with it, but it's not 
very pleasant, especially considering how well it worked in 3.0.3.
