Hello,
Compilation fails on Solaris 11.3 using Solaris Studio 12.6.
I would recommend to compile with GCC, it is free and available on all
platforms. Of course, patches are welcome to support an other compiler.
Yes, I've tried that in the past and found it extremely difficult to get
correctly-linked 64-bit executables on Solaris using gcc.
On SPARC the Oracle Solaris Developer Studio Compilers generate much
better code than GCC/G++[1].
We also prefer to use it - paying for licences and updates - and using a
less effective compiler is not something we are happy about[2].
It's not difficult to write portable C/C++, but too many people these
days think "portable" means "compiles on Ubuntu *and* Fedora Core",
which is just saying an orange is an orange.

1 - This used to be the other way around, but that was long ago when SUN
machines were the primary development systems for such things. :-)
2 - Nor are our customers - but they aren't impacted by Bacula, that's
about the software we develop. ;-)
