Hi Heitor, all

I assume you replied to my list mail only directly to me because I aparently somehow screwed up with my reply-to setting. (If any reply-to is set here, this is *not* my intention.)

I do prefer to keep this discussion public, which is the reason I sent to the list in the first place. I think replying only directly is inappropriate.

Spare me from your sour grapes.

I don't understand why you describe my consideration sour grapes... I'm just curious to learn who actually is behind your project. As you probably recall, I ended up using Bacula because I was very much concerned about long-term stability of backup data and in consequence backup software, so I assumed you would understand that i'd like to know if there's some forseeable future for your latest project. The one you announced last seems to be replaced already, and I see no clear statement about technical and commercial continuity, which made me wonder.

I've done what your crappy development team haven't done in 20 years.

Sure. However, "my" development team can at least claim that what was backed up with their product 20 years ago can still be restored today, and what I learnt about their software is still useful today. I consider that not particularly crappy.

Also, I don't own them. In fact, we sometimes disagree, and I'm quite sure they never took any orders from me.

 > Or, as a suggestion: Perhaps you should find another person in your
holding to communicate all your exciting projects. I think you're losing
credibility. At least try to set up some consistent mail addresses.

You are a community project manager

I'm not aware of that role. If somebody put me there I would object and point out that I'd probably be the worst possible choice anyway.

and also one of the Bacula Systems SA founders - entities with "no relations"?

Did my questions in any way imply that I had no relation to Bacula Systems? (Anybody interested to know -- yes, most of my work is for Bacula Systems and often involves direct contact with Bacula Systems' customers and prospects, where I do represent Bacula Systems. I am, however, neither an employee nor a manager of that company. My mail signature is technically and legally correct, and while I probably could subscribe here with a baculasystems.com address, I never did so and have good reasons to stick with what I have.)

Who are you to talk about credibility?

Sorry, but I don't understand where my credibility is relevant here. If you think my question is pointless that's fine, but the implication that I tried to represent some other entity's concerns as my own seems hardly justified. But I may be biased, as you so clearly pointed out.

You have clear conflict of interests

No. You seem to see one, but let me reassure you -- I have asked similar questions to managers of other backup software or service providers with more or less the same reasons. Of course I try to understand where my -- and Bacula Systems' -- competition are heading at and coming from. Asking questions about organizational background is, as I see it, hardly spreading FUD.

- don't fuck FUD my project.
A community based on threats and lies

Erm... did I ever threaten you? Or anybody else you know of?

Did I ever lie to you?

Or do you address the whole community around here?

- posing as "open" only to gather legitimate users, like mew in 2005 and the Bareos guys, but then imposing flaky licensing traps.

You are mentioning things here I find difficult to discuss as I've never been involved in the legal aspects. What I *was* involved in is, as it happens, not something I would want to discuss here, although my impression was not that any licensing traps were involved as nobody ever brought licensing disputes to my attention. I'm also not exactly understanding how you and the Bareos guys were gathered in any particular manner and to my profit.

However, I don't think this is relevant to this discussion.

Back on topic -- I am interested to learn about the background of your newest project, which has now moved from PodHeitor to NGStructures and the LSG Group holding of which I know nothing and who don't really disclose anything on their web pages. Which, probably understandably, makes me a bit suspicious.

Talking on behalf of such a business structure with a google email address does seem a bit unprofessional to me, so I wanted to have this clarified.

Farewall.

As you don't seem interested in providing any clarification I'm sorry to see that my admittedly provocative way to ask aparently made you leave this group here.

Well, good luck with your current and future ventures.

Arno
