scott,
yes. thank u .
i am so used to not being able to recall names, and so used to people knowing
the names in there own field's history that i forget that often knowledge gets
compartmentalised as it gets multiplied.
the guy with the films and sheets was Jewish, he used the sheets becuase he
felt there weere subtle cues to anthropological history--the travels of peoples
and cultures--to be discovered deep in body language, motion of costume, etc.
he did lottts of films, some hours of which i have seen videos of some eyars
ago. he had some confict, (if an increasingly poor memory seves) with the
national geo society, and much of his work was lost or destroyed.
the other guy was in the southwest, is considered major figure in soc, was
tall, dark haired, slender, moustached, and did exhaustive studies of word
roots, kinship charts, etc. he likewise had a fierce temper...i am tossing
these anecdotal descriptions in hopes somebody will recall a name, and the idea
i am trying to express will therefore be better understood. he maybe studied
the zuni for starters.. but that is just a whisper from my recall, not a
statement.
and thank u again for the assumption that i might actually be saying
something intelligible, or that i might even might vaguely know what i'm
talking about. my ability to learn from these discussions something that can be
carried as other than rote recitiation to people who might benefit to some
degree depends on that.
