First of all, that's just one legal ruling, out of many thousands throughout history. Second of all, it's interesting that the external links that are given in the above site don't work anymore. When you go to http://www.islamicsupremecouncil.org/ you see photgraphs of its leader with President George W. Bush, Jack Straw, and U.S. Vice President Cheney. But when you click on "legal rulings" hyperlink (which should take you to the original fatwas, etc., that were mentioned as external links in the Islamic Concepts & Definitions webpage that you give above, you don't see anything about jihad or about /Jihad/inedx.html . In other words, the sites http://www.islamicsupremecouncil.org/LegalRulings/Jihad/jihad5.htm does not work 7.6 ) Conditions for Combative Jihad The position of the law is that only at such a time when it can be reasonably proven that there are aggressive designs against Islam and there are concerted efforts to eject Muslims from their legally acquired property and that military campaigns are being launched to eradicate them. At such a time the ruler can declare and execute the provisions of Jihad. It is a condition that there be a leader of the Muslims, an Imam, to declare combative Jihad. <more> And when you click on "<more>", it doesn't work. Interesting. > Iskandar: > And there is no Covenant in Islam to give a central authority to one > interpretation over the other. > > Gilberto: > Yes, that makes it more democratic. > You mean the opinion of Osama bin Laden, Khomeini, Ibn Taymiyya, etc., etc., has the same weight as your opinion and/or the opinion of other such as Rumi, etc., etc. I think I 'd let you enjoy that kind of democracy yourself. I don't care for it. You obviously have understanding of the principle of Covenant in the Baha'i Revelation. > Iskandar: > So, various interpretations have caused > > sectarian warfare. I'm talking about real concrete actions by Muslim leaders, scholars, jurists, etc., throughout history. Just read history and just listen to the news of current events. Open your eyes. It was the opinion of highly placed religious scholars that prompted Muslim leaders to execute the Bab, to banish Baha'u'llah from His homeland, and to continue to persecute Baha'is from day 1 through right now. I'm talking about sectarian warfare, on religious grounds, of Muslims against Muslims or Christians against Muslims, or Muslims against Christians, etc., etc., Iskandar The information contained in this e-mail and any attachments thereto ("e-mail") is sent by the Johnson County Community College ("JCCC") and is intended to be confidential and for the use of only the individual or entity named above.
