first allow me to point to what i beleive is a fundamentally necessary
distinction.
 :"wanted to become a Baha'i. "
i am going to assume that what u mean is that they wish toi become a member of
the Baha'i Faith.
if Baha'i means follower of the Glory/Splendour, then the universe is Baha'i
to the extent atr any moment it can be. so far as people becoming Baha'i, the
last Guy about Whom it can be said He became Baha'i got paroled in 1921ish.
members of the Baha'i Faith agree contractually to take as their path
towards becoming Baha'i certain core principles, regs, and a beleif in certain
descriptive passages of Text.
imho most of those are thence defined by others as proscriptive.
in 1992ish, the UHJ addressed the issue u raise, and altho i donb;t have the
Cite handy, somebody at Bnasaa.org might.
since marriage according to Baha'u'llah is between a man and a woman, a
member of gay couple in a contracted relationship that otherrs called marriage
would need to accept that Baha'u'llah's Vote counts more than others. if said
person insisted this isn;t true, they wouldf be not able to pass the simple
yes/no set of qualifications for membership in the body of members of the
Baha'i Faith.
:"Let's say that through personal effort they overcame their problem."
imho, that's a mis-paraphrase of a letter writtten on behalf of the beloved
Guardian.
do u mean that they stop engaging in intimate sexual conduct with the partner?
do u mean they decided to end the relationship?
since the hypothetical person is >not< a member of the Baha'i Faith, Baha'i
law about divorce does not apply. so obviously yes, they would be able to get a
divorce thru whatever admin mechnaism of the world allowed them to be deemed
married.
   just as u indicated.
:"weren't a Baha'i they could divorce for whatever reason they wanted to."
