I think where you're going wrong is that you seem to be assuming a false
black/white dichotomy, that a Manifestation has to be "intimately" close to God
if
not close to the Imams, or to the Imams if not close to God. Try thinking of
points along a continuum instead. Preferably a really long continuum, because
God is immeasurably exalted above everyone/everything, including
Manifestations. ;-)
