i disagree with mark about this, but i understand his view.
in a discussion in which frequently we see terms like "most Moslems think" and
"some poets say" there is a strong appearance that the words are constructs of
a culture.
imho, as somebody who deals with words on a number of levels i would say that
words are social >contracts<. they are bound by the rules of
contracts--difference, consultation, meeting of minds, offer, acceptance. that
this happens with "lightning speed" doesn't change the process. in a discussion
such as these related threads, difference and consultation are at issue.
my own pov, as noted in my original post is that >>morals<< equally have no
value, except as social constructs built on a Contract with the Logos, the end
goal of which is better alignment between Logos' Purpose for man and man's
attainment of same.
thus, any discussion about the "moral value" of something like Abram's
decision to recall sarai being His half-sister rather than attach to her being
His wife cannot reallly be understood.
it is equally amusing in this context that nobody is woofing about Him
marrying His half-sister, only about Him yielding certain property rights for a
while.
and more that nobody is asking what sarai thought about it.
