ian,
:"because it denies that there is a way of judging among the truth
claims of the various "judging subject[s]". "
why do i keep feeling i am somewhere in the last chapters of eco's "name of
the Rose"?

in the statement "everything goes" is a predicate. not a predicate of being,
but a predicate of action. >>>motion<<<. one of those antique avicenna'd Names
is "Prime Mover." if Baha'u'llah's Text on the difference between Reflection of
Attributes vs pantheism can be trusted, then "motion" and thence "change" would
needs be systemically inherent, and archinedes fulcrum needs be adjusted for
the fact that it is at >>all<< times placed on the back of a wobbling tortoise
standing on 4 pillars that are themselves being shaken.

:" """truth is
relative to the standpoint of the judging subject" (Oxford Dictionary of
Philosophy). "
and if this proposition is " not true" then what qualitative value is there in
the judging subject using his own eyes, and not the eyes of others?
"Justice" ("Equity") is, Presumably, precisely Valued ("loved best") by the
Only True Valuer, for producing this relativistic result.

:"and there is
no way to judge between epistemes or the propositions they generate. "
sure there is. "walk the talk" "go".

:"Indeed, the attempt to "legitimate" one
metanarrative (and their propositions) over another is "terrorist" (L's
term)."
i would rather agree with that. "Legitimacy" inheres, or force is arbitraily
applied to make it cohere. ask any welder, concrete mason, or kindergarten
teacher.

:"The problems arise when we try to judge among epistemes." we agree compleatly.

:"Let's face it, if you have a brain tumour, your chances
are better with a neurosurgeon than with a witchdoctor - because the
neurosurgeon has a *better*, truer understanding of the brain circuitry."
actually, that is only a limited truth. i was at a presentation last week in
which a woman arguing that the birth expereince is primary to development noted
to me privately that her husband's brain tumour was reduced not by surgery or
chemotherapy, but by being fed pooled human milk, after "western" --not modern--
methods failed.

;"Progress means we have improved
on our ancestors."
yes. we can now kill millions, or talk to millions. that's quantity, not
quality.

:"So, are you prepared to defend the proposition "Dr. Mengele's morals are not
worse than Mother Teresa's"? "The sins of a KKK lynch mob are no worse than
the sins of their victim."? "
as soon as somebody is prepared to deconstruct the definitions of the words
"morals" "worse" "sin" and probably "are", and not invoke the art of button
pushing, art being beyond the scope of this discussion.

:"The Bahai Writings frequently condemn error and the "people of error."
hmm...since with the very special case of the Mystery of God, all humans
partake of not being the Manifestation, all humans partake of error.
are you saying the Baha'i Writings condemn all humans, or are u saying the
Baha'i Writings are relative?
:"If not, how can a relativist judge his actions to
have been evil - not 'evil in my opinion' but evil?"
how many acres does the third reich occupy these days?
or, to aim tighter, the umayyid dynasty?
 qed.
once u realise the Pillars also move.
