Dear David,
First off, using capitalized pronouns for the Central Figures is
merely a Baha'i convention, it isn't a law. As yes, there are
exceptions. For instance, in those passages where Baha'u'llah refers
to Himself in relationship with God, the Guardian did not capitalize
the first person pronoun. Also, he did not capitalize the first person
pronoun whenever Abdu'l-Baha referred to Himself.
"I have seen works from eminent Baha'is in which they did not
capitalize pronouns, so I'm inclined to assume they knew what they
were doing. Some sources would not even allow capitalization of
pronouns. Presumably Wikipedia doesn't allow it. I just looked at
the article on Baha'u'llah and see the pronouns are not capitalized.
I would have to assume the House would not wish Baha'is to edit
Wikipedia by capitalizing pronouns relating to the Central Figures."
That is correct. When Baha'i scholars are writing for a non-Baha'i
audience they often will not capitalize the pronouns. I certainly
don't when I am writing for a non-Baha'i academic journal.
warmest, Susan
