Dear Susan and Jim,

I agree with both of you.  We can't accept one source as being representative of anything other than one person's selective bias, which is all the more reason for a comprehensive, demographic study.  As far as social problems within the Faith are concerned, some Bahais and institutions act as though ignoring problems is a constructive solution for the sake of a "chimera unity."  Furthermore, there is also an attitude among some Bahais that there is nothing to learn from current general knowledge from outside of the Faith and its institutions, contrary to 'Abdu'l-Baha's guidance in the "Secret of Divine Civilization."  It would be helpful to know the extent of problems within the Bahai community and how such problems are approached so we could learn from mistakes and develop better problem solving techniques, other than burying our heads in the sand.  Perhaps the real problem is a lack of will and courage to face problems, preventing the initiation of any studies.  Marleen
