Third party risk cover is mandatory as per the Motor Vehicles Act, for any Vehicle. It covers liability arising out of risk to a third party from the concerned vehicle. So that will need to be done in any case. Driving without TP can immediately lead to impounding of the vehicle, besides stiff penalties. Comprehensive insurance in older vehicles is not particularly useful, as for most things you get 50% of the value. But in case there is a big claim, something is better than nothing! And insurance is insurance ............... useful in case there are claims, otherwise it is a waste of money!!
