Okie, I will reply on Venkat's behalf now.

First of all Abhay, my sincere request to you is to snip off irrelvant
quoted content when replying to old emails.  It not only saves server
space and bandwidth, it also makes it easier to read (less clutter)
and considered good netiquette.

What you are hearing (most probably) is the valve springs
expanding/uncoiling once you switch off the engine.

Once you switch off the engine, it begins to cool.  The valve springs
then begin to expand (and may be rotate) in their sleeve.  When this
happens they make that characteristic tick tick noise.  Now the
exhaust valve is very close to the exhaust manifold and connects to
the silencer.  Now this acts like a nice gramaphone horn to amplify
the sound that is coming from the spring. So you hear it coming from
the silencer.

This is my interpretation of what I learnt from Venkat on this, please
correct me if I am wrong Venkat!
