hey Guys,

With the recent incident on Amit and his brake disc about cheating of
Authorized dealers for two wheelers, here is another incident which happened
with me today 17-April-10 with Alto car.

Although I know this is not a car forum still i am posting message as i want
to let u all know about how are these authorized dealers cheating for spare
parts.

I had parked my Alto Lxi (Feb-10) model outside my building and feared the
worst which can happen. A rat bite. A blessed rat happened to cut down the
fuel pipe leading it to leakage when the car ignition is on.

On knowing this I went to Mega Service which is an authorized service center
for Maruti in dombivali. The owner of the authorized service center prepared
job card and asked the mechanic to inspect the car. At 9-30 am a high-level
inspection was performed and I was informed that there was a rat bite in the
fuel pipe and entire pipe assembly has to be changed. MGA (Maruti Genuine
Accessories) pipe will cost me Rs. 1126 with Rs.300 of labour. Since i had
no other option i agreed to get the pipe assembly replaced.

Within 30 mins my car was taken in the garage mounted on the ramp and fuel
tank along with assembly was removed. I deliberately went inside the garage
after an hour to see what the matter with my car is, since the job has to be
finished within an hour or so. I took a keen look at the petrol tank and
assembly pipe which connects the tank with rest of the engine it was bitten
by rat. Beside my original pipe i found out another pipe which was similar
to it and can be a replacement for my car.

On close inspection i found that this pipe was manufactured in
07/10/19 02:56 pm since this timpestamp was embossed on it. Also this pipe
was a rusted at the place where nuts-bolts are placed and was without box
packing. I asked the mechanic whether this particular pipe will be replaced
he said yes and started to put copper winding around the pipe as a
preventive measure in order to prevent it from rat bite again. I went to the
supervisor Mr. Amit and told him about this activity of replacing the
original pipe with rusted pipe which seems to used one.

Mr. Amit assured me that this pipe will not be a replacement for my car and
there will be a new box pack pipe for me. After an hour of sitting idle in
authorized service center office i went back again in the garage to see
whether the job was done or not. Petrol tank was lying idle beside car with
pipe assembly opened and lying as orphan. Went again to Mr. Amit to expedite
the process.

On constant buzzing Mr. Amit at 11-30 he assured me that within 20 mins my
car will be ready so I went into the garage to see what exactly is happening
behind the scene. A mechanic was giving winding of copper wire on the pipe
rusted old used pipe, confirmed with mechanic whether he will be using this
fuel pipe in my car he said yes. Again Mr. Amit came into picture and said I
have told him explicitly not to use old pipe and for your car he is using a
new MGA fuel pipe. I took Mr. Amit to the spot where my car was undergoing
replacement and made him talk to the mech. On keen observation of pipe I
found it to be old from some other car with timestamp embossed as
07/10/19 02:56 pm. I showed this to Amit he said this is not the date and
time. This is something else, this is some kind of identification number
then when I made him understood the date he promptly denied that this is
time.

On this behavior I asked Amit to give me a box packed MGA pipe he went in
and came out saying that we are short of stock on this and this is only
piece left with us. A fresh stock will arrive at 2-30 today so you may have
to wait till 4-00 pm to get your job done.

Although the rusted fuel pipe which we have is a MGA fuel pipe but is used
for emergency breakdown on road in emergency service van hence it is opened
and is without box packing. I was not satisfied with his answer since there
were clay stains and residue of clay on the replacement pipe which can only
come if it was fitted on some other car. Other supervisor came to his rescue
claming that this pipe is used for emergency on road breakdown.

I politely said to Mr. Amit if I am paying Rs. 1126 for MGA part then why
wasn’t I given a new part else I must be notified that we are short of stock
on fuel pipe and will have to put an old one instead of a new one. Why was
this not informed to me? Mr. Amit politely apologized to me and said trust
me a new stock is expected shortly and a new box packed MGA fuel pipe will
be opened in front of your eyes and will be fitted in your car for which you
will have to wait till 4-00 pm, with no other option left and my car’s
petrol tank left wide open on the floor I had to wait. Left my car at the
Service Center and hope those guys do a good job on it and do not screw
further.
I will have to get to service center again at 4-00 pm to get my car back. 3
hours sitting in the service center office went all in vain.

To me this is sort of cheating, if I would have not paid attention then old
used pipe would have fitted in my car @cost of original. Are these Service
centre guys deliberately doing this to earn quick money? I had heard of
similiar kind of experience with a Skoda owner on Team BHP.
