I assume you're attaching a file that contains an email
message, not attaching a message from a Balsa mailbox, is that
correct?

No I create an email and attach a file which is a 'fr.po' file

Here is the beginning of such a file
[ snip ]
Balsa uses gnome_vfs_get_file_info to find out what's in a
file, and tries to find a charset only if it's text/*, so
apparently gnome_vfs_get_file_info is saying it's text/*
instead of message/*. Perhaps we should replace
GNOME_VFS_FILE_INFO_GET_MIME_TYPE with
GNOME_VFS_FILE_INFO_FORCE_SLOW_MIME_TYPE--could you try that?

Tried without success.

OK--thanks for trying--I guess gnome_vfs_get_file_info just isn't as smart (or as persistent!) as `file'. We may not have a fix... ;-(
