I have heard that Duc Defenseur de Cieux has applied for the post of Foreign
Minister, and for a position in the King's Musketeers. I feel it is my duty to
inform you that Duc de Cieux has proven to be the most dishonest man I have
encountered during my life in Paris.
He asked me to be admitted to the CG, which I agreed to, and in addition gave
him 500 crowns in order to help him purchase the necessary equipment. However,
when the money had been transferred he never showed up at our barracks, and
instead used the money to stay in Paris like a coward and court my mistress! Now
he has asked to join the King's Musketeers instead and I have not heard a word
from him. Not even the slightest attempt to explain his dishonest actions.
I trust neither Your Majesty, nor Colonel duBois will even consider accepting
his applications after hearing this.
