I was shocked to learn that your manservant had been implicated in the
recent egg-throwing incident which caused His Majesty so much
embarrassment - not to mention the embarrassment suffered by the poor host,
Baron d'Eau, of course.
I cannot conceive of _any_ gentleman being party to such apalling bad taste
and, from a strategic point of view, I can divine no useful purpose
whatsoever from such an operation. What could the unspeakable cad behind the
affair possibly hope to achieve by it? The only explanation which makes any
sense at all is that the operation was mounted specifically to have an
opponent of the perpetrator blamed for the incident and shorn of His
Majesty's favour. Are you aware of any highly placed figures with base and
furtive natures whom you may have displeased recently? Who could possibly
have such a hold upon the egg-thrower that he could force him to throw his
life away in this fashion? It strikes me that only the direst of threats to
the man's family should he not bow to the wishes of the man ultimately
responsible could compell such suicidal action.
Needless to say, should the need arise, reference to both your exemplary
character and your unwavering loyalty to His Majesty will glady be provided
