To General le Duc Alain de Mylcandonai
Palais Royal
Rue St Honor
Paris
Mon Cher Fils,
Thank you for your Christmas invitation, which I gladly accept, and
apologies for overlooking your Marquisate, Duchy and General's commission
in my previous letter. I was saving my congratulations for your appointment
as Minister of State, but I suppose Minister of War will have do for the
present. Well done, my boy - no-one in the family has ever reached anywhere
near such an exalted position.
I'm looking forward to seeing how Nicole is shaping up to married life, and
it will be nice to see Rougeur and Michelle again, of course. I hope that
His Majesty turns up too, for I intend to give him a piece of my mind where
Michelle is concerned. She has been married to Rougeur for months now, but
His
Majesty has still yet to have her formally recognised as a Vicomtesse...
Rumour has it that Senior purposely delayed his departure to the Indies in
order to queer your pitch with His Majesty regards the Ministry of State
appointment. Is there any truth in this? Not that it would surprise me - his
mother had a petty, vindictive streak which he seems to have taken from her.
Did I ever mention that I knew the woman personally? So did most of the
officers serving in Paris at the time, until she renounced her original
profession. I recall that she had a great interest in fortune tellers and
charlatans of that ilk too, so Duchesse Senior's interest in Voodoo comes as
no surprise. So many men marry women who remind them of their mothers, don't
you find?
I believe that Grosscanard is also after a new position - well, any position
would be an improvement. What are his chances of becoming the new CRAP,
ARSE, KNOB or WANKER of Paris, do you think?
Finally, I have yet to hear anything from your land agent. Has there been a
problem with the purchase of le Petit Masure?
Your Proud Father
Lt.Colonel (Retd) le Chevalier Marcel de Mylcandonai
