Colonel Le Chevalier Jolais
27th Musketeers

Sir,

I have recently arrived in Paris and seek to serve His Majesty as an officer
of the army. I see from the regimental gazette that a captaincy is currently
available in your fine regiment and I would like to introduce myself for
that position.
Though from a poor family I have managed to educate myself and have taken
pains to ensure I have adequate measures of social grace, gentlemanly and
honourable conduct and above all reasonable understanding of the science of
warfare. You would find me to be a diligent and loyal officer. In fact, as
conscientious as I am I might boldly recommend myself for the position of
Regimental Adjutant also, if that is not too forward or impertinent. This
would free up Major Jurine to command his battalion I believe.

I pray that you will look upon my application favourably and look forward to
the opportunity to discuss this with you in person.

Most humbly yours,
M. Oliver Grenard D'Antioc
