General le Duc Alain de Mylcandonai to
the Lieutenant General, Brigadiers and Colonels of the 1st Army
Greetings!

Gentlemen,

A very disappointing beginning to the campaign. Let me apologise first of
all for the part played in this by the occasional confusion at First Army
Headquarters. I have, as you may have heard, dismissed my current aide in
the hope that his replacement will have a much better grasp of his
responisibilities. If any of you are aquainted with any able Majors whom you
consider might be up to the job, please have them contact me privately as a
matter of some urgency.

The fact remains, however, that thanks to our failure to sufficiently
disrupt supplies to the Spanish held border fortresses, General d'Eau's
attempts to reduce said fortresses have so far proven inconclusive. This is
just not good enough, gentlemen! I wish to see a marked improvement in the
coming months.

Thankfully, the First Army's performance has not been uniformally mediocre:
the commands of Lt.General de Wich, Brigadier d'Emsay, Colonel de Cooper,
Brigadier Cipher, Brigadier de Custaad and Brigadier Courvoisier performed
most creditably, for which you have my unalloyed thanks, gentlemen. Please
convey my congratulations to the men under your command - though they should
be warned against complacency since this month we have it all to do again.

As for the rest of you, pray exhort your men to greater efforts during the
remainder of the campaign.

Your orders for July are in the sealed packets delivered alongside this
letter. I am confident that, if strictly followed, they will result in the
First Army being in a position to bestow upon His Majesty the glorious
victory which He has every right to expect of us at the conclusion of the
campaign.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

General de Mylcandonai
