Hi,
Just an idea on the macro-context; something we won't use directly in
the game in the short term, but which, if you like it, could give some
perspective/background when we discuss missions scenarios and other
storyline related elements.
The idea comes from Aurélien. Thx !
The pitch :
the world on the verge of a new paradigm : some people believe that new
forms of consciousness are about to emerge - one is Gaia, the mother
earth, and one is the result of all technical interconnections - an AI.
Three human organizations are involved. The first one is fighting to
favor the emergence of Gaia. The second is helping the AI to come to
consciousness. The third is a group of so called humanists, who fights
against the emergence of these supra-human consciousness, and whishes to
maintain human beings in control of nature and science.
The player will find himslef involved in the middle of this triangle.
Why I think this situation has some potential :
* Both AI and Gaia are very common themes, not original, which means
there is a lot of existing content on the web that we can use for
missions. For instance, when it comes to Gaia, it is possible to relate
it to various forms of spiritualities throughout the history (assuming
for instance that Gaia might have emerge in the past, with a different
name), which opens the door for missions that investigate mysteries of
the past, lots of content there...
* There is no bad guy, which I think is interesting. There are just
three groups with contradictory interests.
* The first organization that contacts the player could be the
'humanists'. They seem like the reasonable guys at the beginning (see
their long term goal as defined by Alex, seems good enough no ? :)),
fighting for the sake of human beings. But if we want, they can reveal
themselves after some time as 1) ready to fight for their cause at any
cost, which can be ethically problematic for the player, and 2) blind to
the potential of these new consciousness, obsessed with the status quo
and the defense of existing interests (economical, political, etc),
which the player might disagree with.
In short, the player might find this group not so admirable after some
time and start looking at the alternatives (AI/Gaia) with interest
making these three groups desirable for players and opening the path for
the ability for the players to join one of these three groups in the future.
What do you think ?
D
