Hi,I looked at some feedback on the introduction mission, and it's not working well unfortunately. One of the big issues is that the moment when the organization website is hacked is not well understood. The reason is that we did not have enough time to add a wow effect when the site is hacked, so people don't even notice it, and because of that they don't really understand what is happening in the chat. Another problem is that players are a bit lost at the beginning, because we try to give them the context and talk to them a lot while they only look for a tutorial. At least that's how I understand it. They expect to do a simple mission and be guided step by step; that's, as of now, how I see it. Third issue is that we apparently tried to include too much text in this first mission, we need to have the user play almost immediately else he gets bored, that's what I reckon for the feedback.
So here is what I'm doing to partly solve these issues before tomorrow's deadline : - temporarily hiding the current introduction mission until we create the wow effect for the hacking of the organization website. - replacing the content of the introduction with an easier mission (the one called missing_agent, that players seem to be able to perform without too much difficulty). More precisely, Alex I've taken the liberty to keep the beginning and ending of your mission (context wise) and I've replaced the middle (the hack part that doesn't work, and the following chocolate hills) with the missing agent mission. - make this introduction mission as easy and step by step as possible. - And remove some text that is not absolutely necessary for the understanding.
I think this is the best course of action for now, but please let me know what you think. I'll push this new version tonight so you can check it. I already attach the php so that you can get an idea.
Alex :I'm sorry I can't use your mission for tomorrow's build. Regarding the wow effect when the hack happens, there's not much that can be done until then. And regarding the fact that text is too long, well we're all currently learning what works or not for the players. Personnally a big lesson of the week-end that I've learned for the future is that the less time the player spends on the chat the better, because it's a blocker for many people apparently. We have to push him to do things on the web as much as possible (for instance expurgate the chat by showing him a picture or a video on the web instead of telling him something on the chat). That's a good challenge for the next steps I think.
I would have preferred to have you adapt the introduction mission using the missing agent one, because it's your mission; but because of the deadline it's easier if I work directly on the php. But if you could proof read either the attached php or tonight on the live when the mission is pushed, and give me some feedback, that would be very useful.
