Hi everyone, Back after one month far away from france… and from the ml.
Here are the main points regarding a discussion I had with Xav yesterday. Xav please let us know if you want to add other things. * Objective of the projects vs Objective of the studio. I needed clarification on this topic so we discussed it and Xav and I agreed on the following : o There are two separate entities, the community for a game (who gathers developers, players, etc around one project) and the studio, each of which has different rules and different objectives. o All contributors of the community will be bound by the social contract. The studio being one of the contributors, it is also bound by this contract. o But at the same time, the studio is a company, therefore it has objectives of profitability and is accountable to its shareholders (founders, community, investors, future employees). It is therefore a “traditional’ company but nonetheless with a specific and strong identity - run a ‘honest’ business, follow the rules of the social contract as does any member of the community, community being one of the shareholders, etc. o The slight ambiguity here is that the founders are at the same time in charge of the studio and currently the only members of the committee of the community. We don’t forecast any major conflict of interest on this (community and studio have the same objective of creating good and successful games) but if this arises, it should be stated very clearly. o All of this being said, I will have a look at 1) the social contract and at 2) the values of the company to make sure these things are stated clearly. If I’m not mistaken these are the two documents that define the behavior within the community and within the studio, or am I forgetting something ? * Fund raising. We will aim at raising a ‘small’ amount of 50-100k€ (and then push hackIt until nov-dec, decide if it has potential then continue pushing else take another road) before going for some more fund raising. This said, we will meet potential investors this summer in order to test our concept and appear on their radar for the future. * Canada -> we’ve planned to go there at the beginning of September for a week to check if it would be interesting/possible to move there (waiting for confirmation from Xav on the date) * Roles between Xav and I regarding production- I will start to break down the tasks regarding the dev of the game (user feedback, game design choices, monitoring of dev, testing , etc) and Xav and I will progressively decide who follows up on what so that it is clear for everyone.
