I've just installed Open Web Analytics, to track statistical information about visits (see <http://demo.openwebanalytics.com/owa/> http://demo.openwebanalytics.com/owa/ to get a feel of the kind of information we'll be able to get). It should be a good replacement to Google Analytics - there are some interesting features I haven't seen in GA, like following individual sessions paths.
[David] I’ve been playing a little with OWA to discover the tool. It looks interesting, though I can’t compare it with google analytics because I’m not familiar with this topic. For people like me who don’t know much about web analytics, the introduction on Wikipedia is well written, it clarifies a few concepts -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_analytics This said, I have a few basic questions, sorry if it’s obvious : · On the dashboard, I see (for instance for today, and on all sites) : 3 unique visitors, and 5 repeat visitors and 1 new visitors. I don’t understand, I thought repeat visitors would be number of unique visitors who have already visited at least once already today, so the number of unique visitors should be at least 5. But as it is actually 3, I guess repeat visitors are not unique repeat visitors, so what is it, is it the number of visits made by users who have already visited before ? · When I look at the referring web sites (http://community.hackit.cx/stats/web/index.php?owa_period=today&owa_site_id=&owa_do=base.reportReferringSites), is it supposed to be external sites from where the user comes ? Because the url of these sites are pages of community.hackit.cx, so I’m unclear. · I’ve also looked at your google ads mail Xav, o Would it be possible for me to access the monitoring tool of google that you use to follow up ? It would help me catch up how this works o You mention a bug related to registration in OWA, I’m not sure to understand. Awstats is providing data that will later be available in OWA ? And currently, in OWA what is working or not ? Because I tried to access hackit through google and OWA confirmed this on the search engine page. Can you elaborate a bit more on OWA vs Awstats ? o Finally, I tried a few keywords (like ‘hack game’) on google but did not see a hackit link, can you explain briefly how the google ads campaign work or provide me with a link that explains the stuff ?
