Here is an article about strategy games on FB ->
http://www.insidesocialgames.com/2010/07/07/strategy-games-facebook/

People who develop these kind of games follow the assumption that there is a
strong potential to go for niches on social networks, which is interesting.

But the results until then are not clear : . For instance, you see that
Verdonia (http://www.appdata.com/facebook/apps/index/id/10150138245120151 ),
a strategy game that attracted a lot of players in the last 3 weeks, but
that also shows a strongly decreasing ratio of DAU/MAU. Is it because people
come but go away when they realize how hardcore it is ?

They are also strategy games that accept completely their hardcore side,
like Evony (http://www.appdata.com/facebook/apps/index/id/372268249833 ) and
follow the mmorpg model of long sessions of gameplay, which might not be
compatible with fb, at least it's not obvious. This might explain the low
number of MAU compared to Verdonia for instance ? But they have a very
stable DAU/MAU.

And they mention that there is a significant number of women - 30% of the
player base, interesting indeed...
