Probably it is...

I've tried to write data onto the tape via tar.
tar can write some files and folders but as soon as tar has apparently to write 
files greater than 1M, even my tar command starts freezing the server and 
restarts after 2-3 minutes...

I've tried already two more kernels (3.10 and 3.12 aside of 2.6.32.431) but I 
suspect my Adapdreck HBA 1045 Controller that is causing these problems.

Any recommendations for a proper HBA controller? Perhaps something like the LSI 
SAS 9207-4i4e?
