Zitat von Philipp Storz <[email protected]>:
Hello Dmitry and Andreas,Great info, so - if I understood this correctly - Bareos will backup all snapshots generated by anyregistered VSS Writers? In principle that is true, but of course you need to backup the right files that a certain VSSWriter needs for restore. Also some VSS Writers need some special things to work correctly, which is for example the SystemState Writer. There you need some special calls to get an xml file that is needed for system state restoreafterwards. Also, it tells you which files you need to backup.
This only applies if not doing a full restore on a empty volume or if the files are split across multiple volumes like in Windows > Vista where boot and system volume are not the same anymore, no?
We have tested different full restores with Windows 2003 and never had a problem with systemstate, but we are still searching for a simple solution on Windows 2008 and later because of the boot/system volume split.
More details can be found here for example: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/bb968830(v=vs.85).aspxWe right now do not have support for these kind of VSS Writers, but we have that already in mind forthe future.
Would this solve the problem above? Or is there any other recommended way to do disaster restore with Windows 2008 and newer?
Regards Andreas
