There are some things missing like how many slots the IBM system has and what drives same for the HP (although that would probably be 8 with one of the newest drives like LTO6).

Which option do you recommend ? > The answer to that kind of depends on the info above and what you want to keep online. It may make sense to use the newer LTO6 drives and media (which also costs money) which could store more data. > Does anyone have experience with these devices ? We did do some tests on the IBM ones big ones with lots of drives and slots and LTO6 drives. Those worked well but don't know what model you are currently using. > > Please take into consideration that we are talking about no more than > 10 clients at the beginning , do you reccomend to use the virtual > machine based on suse studio or should I use a real hardware ? 10 machines can contain quite some data so it depends on your data you get from one backup run (fulls) and all incremental or differentials you want to take over a certain period and if you use some DiskToDiskToTape setup e.g. then most of the restores will be satisfied from the disk pool and the tapes are only used when the data in the diskpool is expired. As to using virtualization or not that kind of depends what parts of the system you virtualize. I would myself not virtualize the Storage Daemon and the Database but the director could be. The rpms used in the suse studio image are the same as in the normal repository. Depending on what image you downloaded it might contain either the stable or the bleeding edge code. The image does also contain a MHVTL software tapelibrary which is nice to test but doesn't make to much sense for a production setup. So I would just install a fresh machine and then pull in the right repo from download.bareos.org. -- Marco van Wieringen [email protected] Bareos GmbH & Co.
