That is true, there is no such parameter. > For example : > In bareos, the autoprune setting in the client resources is disabled. This means that the client retentions for job and file are not used. So you can only concentrate on the volume retention. The volume retention means that the volume can not be overwritten before the newest backup on the volume is at least the specified age old. > If i have a one full backup in volumes and few incrementals : > My job retention for my client is : 1 month > My file retention for my client is : 1 month > My volume retention for my pool is : 1 week After the retention period is over, bareos still tries to keep the data as long as possible, so it will try to use an empty tape next if there is one, and it will recycle and overwrite the oldest tape that is available. By setting the volume retention, you set the guaranteed time that the data on that volume will not be overwritten by bareos, it does not mean that it will be overwritten directly after that period is over. Also, the data is only then overwritten, when the volume is reused. So if you go to holiday, and no backup is done during your vacation, nothing will be deleted because there will probably be no backup. > > If all volumes are "full" and a new backup start ,all data in my volumes will > be deleted after 1 week or after 1 month ? > > Because if i only one full backup in my laptop and i'm going on vacations for > two weeks, my backup is automatically deleted ? If that's the case, i lose all data if my laptop crashed and i need to restore data. > > Thanks in advance, > > Mickaël > I hope this helps a bit to understand how things work.
