Hello Bareos Users! I'm setting up a Bareos system, so this will probably be the first of many questions I have :)
So, what I want to achieve is this: I have some backups going to disk on my server. I would like to copy some jobs to tape for offsite storage. What I'm thinking of is having 4 tapes and doing all the copy jobs on the 1st sun of each month. Tape1 on jan, may, sept; Tape2 on feb, june, oct; Tape3 on mar, jul, nov; Tape4 apr, aug, dec. So three tapes would always be in offsite storage and one available. Originally I thought I could have one pool per tape, and the schedule would decide which tape (pool) to use. But since there can be only one Next Pool in a job, I don't think I can do that. But I want to keep the strict rotation of the tapes (so that at any given time the last three monthly backups are offsite). So my new idea is to have all four tapes in one pool and to use Prefer Mounted Volumes = yes on the copy jobs. Then I can always make sure the correct tape is in the drive when the job runs (I don't have an autochanger, so it will be by hand). Will this work? Or will Bareos complain if there is for example space left on Tape2 and not on Tape3, but it's Tape3's "turn", so I mount Tape3? Will I have to prune jobs manually in order to keep the strict rotation Tape1->Tape2->Tape3->Tape4->Tape1? Is there perhaps some better option to achieve what I want to achieve? (Copy jobs to tape and always have the last three offsite) -- Joakim -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "bareos-users" group.
